If you’ve not read Tracy Kidder’s Pulitzer-winning book about the amazing Dr Paul Farmer, Mountains Beyond Mountains, there’s no time like now with the health- care reform debate.
Farmer and his cohorts have revolutioned health care for the
poorest of the poor in the dirt-poorest regions of this world.
The Kidder book is an entertaining yet serious portrait of this physician who has saved innumerable numbers of lives in ways that were believed to be impossible.
In the process, Farmer has shamed the pharmaceutical behemoths and medical providers into joining his cause to deliver high-quality health and medical care at the lowest costs and in the most efficient ways.
He’s a tireless health caregiver and advocate for the poor and his story is more relevant now than ever.
Also, check out the Partners in Health web site. PIH is the nonprofit that Farmer and his longtime partners established years ago to provide health care to the poor around the world.
