“We do not understand all that these children have experienced in their home countries or in their arduous journey to our borders. We do know that their plight breaks the heart of God.
“Children are some of the most vulnerable members of the global community. Many come seeking to survive. They all need our compassion and care. At a time of concern about a struggling economy and national security, it is easy to give in to fear and to let that fear, rather than God’s heart, shape our hearts and our response. ‘God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.’ (II Tim. 1:7).
“As followers of Christ, we have the power and wisdom of God to care for these unaccompanied children.”

My thoughts, exactly. Posted to my Facebook wall. Good to see all the bishops unified on this topic.
I’m sure every bishop in the church is in agreement with this very Wesleyan response. All the Texas bishops are good eggs in my view.
Current Texas
bishops, that is.
When I see the vitriolic anger and hear the words some of my fellow Americans use to describe their perspective on the arrival of these children…it breaks my heart!
Thanks for keepin’ it real, Pablo!
Peace,
love ya miss ya, soul sistuh! hope you’re enjoying your Galveston gig!
As a person living in the old country – England – I find it hard to understand how Americans can call themselves the land of the free, when they are one of the leaders in the world in the proportion of their citizens they imprison and their are so many homeless. Are they only free for their own elite and cannot bear to help suffering children from elsewhere who ask for help.
My Master, Jesus Christ said, `suffer little children to come unto Me,` and also, `However you treat the least of my people you treat me.` I will pray for the light of Christ to shine all over your land, so that compassion will embrace you and you can help those worse of than yourselves.
